My First Ghost Encounter as an Adult: A Journey into Spirit Awareness

Speaker featured on The Urban Debate

If you’re reading this, you probably already know me—or maybe you’ve just stumbled onto my little corner of the web. Either way, welcome! I’m Mohnish, a certified facilitator of Talk to the Entities and Access Consciousness. This is my very first blog post, and I want to invite you into a story that changed my life and set me on a path of spiritual exploration and healing. Whether you are a seasoned explorer of the spirit world or simply curious, I hope this story will help you feel more at ease with your own spirit awareness.

Moving Into History: The House in Defence Colony

In 2015, I moved into a charming, aged bungalow in Defence Colony, New Delhi, a neighborhood steeped in history. For those unfamiliar, Defence Colony was allotted to the families of India’s freedom fighters—a detail that, at the time, felt like a cool bit of trivia, not a premonition.

The house itself was magical: built in the 1950s, with a lush garden, a backyard, a study, a grand living room with a fireplace, antique furniture, and bedrooms filled with the echoes of decades past. My friend lived on the top floor and invited me to see the ground floor, which had just become available. I was instantly enchanted and signed the lease without a second thought.

The house even came with a live-in caretaker, who had worked for the previous owner. It felt like a dream—an old-world home and a caretaker. How did I get so lucky?

The Unseen Begins to Stir

Within a week of moving in, small oddities began to surface. At the time, I had no tools or knowledge about spirit awareness or communication—I was just a regular person, excited about my new home. But I started seeing things flicker in the corners of my eyes. Whenever I turned to look, nothing was there.

I shared my experiences with my friend upstairs. She hesitated, then confessed she had felt the presence of an old lady around her bed at night. We were both a bit unnerved, but curiosity kept us talking. When I asked if she had any idea who it could be, she said, “I think it’s the old lady who owned this house. She died on your floor just a few weeks before you moved in.”

That was my first shock. I was living in a house where the previous owner had just passed away, sleeping in her bed, surrounded by her things. Shouldn’t that be disclosed in real estate deals? Apparently not, unless there has been a crime. People die in their homes all the time, I told myself.

A little more digging revealed that the house had been the marital home of the deceased lady and her husband for over 60 years. Marriage, children, death—so many memories and emotions soaked into the walls of this place.

When the House Comes Alive

In the months that followed, the strange occurrences grew more intense. It started with short circuits, flickering lights, and locks refusing to work. Then came the nightmares—intense, vivid dreams of being strangled. My friend and I compared notes and realized we were both experiencing the same thing.

My mental health, already fragile for years, began to spiral. Depression and insomnia intensified to unbearable levels. Darkness seemed to seep from the walls. One night, in a state of utter hopelessness, I attempted to set my room on fire. I was desperate for relief from the unrelenting sense of oppression and despair. And so unable to express that I was feeling all these crazy things.

Around the same time, my friend’s floor was burglarized. It felt like the house itself was rebelling, as if an unseen resident resented our presence. The logical part of my mind tried to rationalize everything, but the evidence was mounting: this was no ordinary house.

Haunted House pushed me to Finding a New Path

After my lowest point, I miraculously found a facilitator of Access Consciousness. The session I had was transformative. For the first time, someone showed me I wasn’t crazy—I was simply aware. I had abilities with the spirit world, and the things I was experiencing weren’t figments of my imagination.

This was the turning point. The relentless, aggressive activity in the house forced me to seek a new way of being and healing. It was the push I needed to embark on a journey of self-discovery and spiritual learning. Not long after, I decided to move out. I didn’t yet have the tools to deal with such a powerful haunting, and leaving felt like the best option for my sanity.

Understanding What Happened—Years Later

Years have passed, and I have since devoted myself to learning and practicing spirit communication. Looking back, I understand what was happening. The spirit in that house was simply lost—she didn’t know her body had died. To her, it was still her home. Imagine waking up to find strangers in your bedroom! Her confusion and anger were completely understandable.

This experience taught me an important lesson: not all spirits are aware they’ve crossed over. It’s a myth that everyone becomes enlightened or empowered the moment they die. Many souls get stuck for all sorts of reasons—trauma, sudden death, drugs (pharmaceutical or recreational), surgery, or even suicide. In the case of the lady in my house, it was old age, illness, and heavy medication (lots of morphine, I eventually learned).

Even after leaving, I felt her presence linger. But thanks to the Talk to the Entities courses, I eventually helped her understand what had happened and assisted her to move on. Once she got present with the truth, she was able to choose something different. Most spirits not all, I’ve discovered, are simply lost or confused—not evil or malicious, well, some can be.

Busting the Myths About Spirits

Through all of this, I learned to challenge the common myths about spirits. Not all ghosts are scary or out to harm you. Many just want to be seen, acknowledged, or helped. Some don’t even know they’re dead! It’s a humbling realization that has helped me approach the spirit world with more clarity and less fear.

I often recall the wisdom of my mentor, Shannon O’Hara, founder of Talk to the Entities: “Don’t be scared, be scary.” The deeper message is that we don’t have to be afraid of what we perceive. Even the scariest spirits are often times just confused or lost. With the right tools and questions, you can handle whatever comes your way.

Embracing Your Own Spirit Awareness

If you’re feeling called to explore your own spirit awareness, know that curiosity is a powerful ally. My journey began in fear and confusion, but it led me to healing, growth, and a new sense of purpose. You don’t have to navigate these waters alone—there are tools, facilitators, and even free content on the internet ready to support you.

Whether you’re a skeptic, a believer, a seeker or somewhere in between, I hope this story offers some comfort and encouragement. The spirit world isn’t always what we see in horror movies. Sometimes, it’s just a matter of helping a lost soul find its way home.

Thank you for reading this story. I hope it inspires you to look beyond fear and reach for clarity—about spirits, about yourself, and about the unseen possibilities that surround us all.

If you have your own stories or questions, feel free to share them with me. After all, every journey into the unknown begins with a single step—and sometimes, a single story.
